Join us for this fascinating ‘Land and Sea’ authentic Auckland cultural tour experience with Dane Tumahai, a 7th-generation member of the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei iwi.
Discover their story, from their arrival in the Kaipara Harbour, north of Tamaki Makaura (Auckland), through their continued occupation of the region, and their experience of colonisation and land loss, through to thriving today post-Treaty settlement.
This authentic experience visits sites of cultural significance including Maungawhau (Mt Eden), Okahu Bay, Takaparawhau (Bastion Point), and the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei marae boundary.
It involves about 1.5 hours of easy walking from Okahu Bay, past the marae and community at Takaparawhau (Bastion Point) to Pourewa native nursery and medicinal gardens.
Offered in partnership with Te Manu Taupua.
