Terra & Tide is committed to managing and developing its business in a sustainable manner and to minimising the environmental impact of its activities.
We are also committed to actively working to conserve the unique environment that we work in.
- We minimise the use of plastic in our operations.
- We measure and minimise our carbon footprint and are zero carbon certified (see below).
- We educate our clients about conservation on Waiheke Island and in the Hauraki Gulf.
- We actively work on conservation in our own backyard. Gabrielle started Friends of Hekerua which looks after Department of Conservation reserve and council land in the Hekerua Bay catchment. She runs a stoat-trapping and rat-baiting programme there, which is part of Te Korowai o Waiheke (Towards Predator Free Waiheke), and our team actively volunteers on this project.
- Terra & Tide has also been involved in community planting days and reforestation projects including Awaawaroa catchment to protect the giant banded Kokopu.
- We are pleased to announce that as of July 2022, we have a partnership agreement with the Waiheke Resources Trust and Sustainability Centre and through this partnership we support the Love our Wetlands initiative. This initiative plants thousands of native trees annually in our wetlands around Waiheke Island with the aim of reaforestation and restoration of these areas in order to support native bird life, mitigate the impacts of climate change and reduce run off into our surrounding oceans. All our guests have the opportunity to off set their travel emissions when they book with us with a min $6 donation that supports the planting and maintenance of 1 tree.
Zero Carbon Business Operations Certification
Terra and Tide is proud to be certified Zero Carbon Business Operations with Ekos. We have measured and offset 120% of the carbon footprint of our business operations for 2021-22 financial year with certified carbon credits to achieve climate positive accreditation. This footprint includes activities related to tourism.
These certified carbon credits are sourced from projects that grow and protect native forests in Aotearoa and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.
