One of the interesting things about the John Muir Trail is that it actually starts (or ends if you’re walking southwards) on top of a mountain. They don’t count that little bit of work you need to do to get to the start!
We set off at 5am today, and made it to the summit of Mt Whitney at 11.30am, having walked 11km, while gaining 1200m (4000ft) in altitude. That’s a tough walk! Had a bit of nausea but aspirin did the trick. Great weather and great views along the way.
At 4421m (14,505ft), Mt Whitney is the highest peak in the continental United States, so it must be all downhill from here, right?
No cellphone coverage from here on, so I’ll talk with you in a couple of weeks!
